10:00 hrs - Excursion to Gobustan. Located west of the settlement of Gobustan, about 40 miles (64 km) southwest

of the center of Baku on the west bank of the Caspian Sea. In 2007 Gobustan was declared a UNESCO World

Heritage Site considered to be of "outstanding universal value" for the quality and density of its rock art engravings,

for the substantial evidence the collection of rock art images presents for hunting, fauna, flora and lifestyles in prehistoric

times and for the cultural continuity between prehistoric and medieval times that the site reflects.

Excursion to Mud Volcanoes - Mud volcanoes occur where tectonic movement allows subterranean gases to escape

to the surface. A few of these gas leaks are constantly on fire, shooting small perpetual flames into the air, and

some believe that these perpetual flames are strongly connected to the appearance of Zoroastrianism in Azerbaijan

about 2,000 years ago. Located a 1.5-hour drive from Baku, the mud volcanoes at Dashgil near the Gobustan

Reserve are the most popular to visit.

57,500 m2 building complex in Baku, Azerbaijan designed by Iraqi- British architect Zaha Hadid and noted for its

Aliyev, the first secretary of Soviet Azerbaijan from 1969 to 1982, and president of Azerbaijan Republic from

October 1993 to October 2003. (Photoshoot outside)
